Surya Namaskar- an adoration of the Sun - is a practice every one knowingly and unknowingly does, yogi, yogini or not. Sun Salutation as a formal practice is done with intention, with the body, breath, intention and awareness. It builds resilience, build a Tapas - Zeal; Reminds us of good values as the Sun represents, opens us up to our better higher nature by connecting us to universality and greater community.
We start off as a physical practice think of health and well being. As you practice regulary by using the very word Namaskar something shifts for me, I can’t go on mechanically. Here is a flavor of how I connect with Surya Namaskar.

The postures naturally evoking tranquility, openness, openeing up the possibilities of the day, introspection as I bend forward, yielding in to the better nature, regrouping as I make full contact with the solid support in Ashtanganamaskar and return back with renewed clarity, energy and focus.
We repeat this again and again and in that strucutre, we discover the freedom. In Bhagavad Gita, Lod Krishna tells Arjuan that he taught The Sun God the knowledge of being a Karma Yogi, of doing selfless service, and this can be a guiding principle in our life.
Do you have any other physical practice that centers you in this way - bpdy, breath and mind? Would love to hear your thoughts.
